Although a little far from our hotel in Bir Billing (54 km), Barot’s serenity and tuned tranquillity shakes solitude seekers to explore beyond the crowded spots of Himachal.
Barot is perched on the bank of the Uhl river, originating from the Thamsar glacier, and flanked by dense Oak and Deodar forest. A Trout breeding centre nearby lets loose Trout into the Uhl and offers avid anglers a rare opportunity (permission from the local authority is required). The British developed the village to harness hydropower. The project is presently known as Shanan Hydel Project.
One can cross over the Uhl towards the Nagru Wildlife Sanctuary to see Monal, Black Bear, Ghoral, and many other endemic flora and fauna.
Despite not being on the preferred list of tourists, you will find regular bus and taxi services to Barot from Bir, Joginder Nagar, Baijnath and Mandi.
