Located just 2 km from our luxury resort in Bir Billing, the monastery belongs to the Sakya School of Tibetan Buddhism. The late Gyalsay Tulku Rinpoche and some other senior monks established the monastery in 1966. The monastery shares roots with the original monastery, the Dirru Monastery in Nangchen (Yushu), China.
The great Tibetan Buddhism master Khon Konchok Gyalpo founded the Sakya school in 1073 and ever since this school has preserved Buddha’s doctrines unaltered. Some of the prominent monks of this lineage governed Tibet during the 13 th and 14 th centuries.
