The monastery is 13 km from Tatva Bir hotel in Palampur through pine forested foothills of the Kangra valley. H.E. the 12 th Tai Situ Rinpoche founded the Sherab Ling Monastery as a seat in exile at the age of 22.

Resident monks study and practice meditation. Although meditational retreats are also available for lay people too.

The monastery has shrine halls, a monastic college, a school, a library, a museum, an exhibition hall and a dispensary. It also offers the traditional Kagyu three-year retreat from nuns and monks on the premise.
