Tashi Jong Monastery 🤩

The monastery is a community of predominantly Tibetan refugees and Buddhists. It is located in Tashi Jong village, between Paprola and Taragarh. The monastery complex has a main temple, the stupa of Khamtrul Rinpoche and a retreat centre. The entire building features intricate woodcarving, gilded facades and  Buddhist paintings.

Tashi Jong, Tibetan for auspicious valley, was established in 1969. The monastery migrated from Kalimpong in West Bengal, where, in 1958, many people who fled the Khampagar area (Tibet) sought refuge within the newly formed community after escaping the advances of Communist China.

The 8 th Khamtrul Rinpoche, Kalzang Dongyu Nyima, left Tibet in 1958 to escape persecution and preserve the Buddhist doctrines. He was accompanied by 16 monks and reincarnate lamas. Before settling in India, he had been the head of Khampagar Monastery in Eastern Tibet. The Khampagar Monastery is one of the foremost monasteries of the Drukpa Kagyu lineage and has over 200 affiliated and branch monasteries, nunneries and retreat centres.

Just 14 km away, you can begin with the experience of serenity and peace from Tatva Bir luxury resort in Palampur to experience the heightened tranquillity at the Tashi Jong Monastery.
